Telecommunication and Other Legislation Amendment (Assistance and Access) Act 2018 Submission – PJCIS

This submission, written with widespread industry collaboration and support, identifies four key amendments on the Assistance and Access Act for the consideration of the PJCIS. We argue that it should be made impossible for individuals to receive a notice under the Act, that the Act limits its scope to communications-focused companies, that it restricts the definition of ‘serious crime’ for the purposes of the act, and that it enhances regulatory oversight of those enacting powers granted by the Act.
